East MacDonnell Ranges
This full day excursion will take you on a journey along the East MacDonnell Ranges with stops of botanical interest at the impressive dolomite structure of Corroboree Rock, Trephina Gorge with its soaring red cliffs, and the historic gold mining area of Arltunga. Time permitting, we will also stop at Emily Gap as we head back to Alice Springs.
All stops have different habitats and a diversity of plant communities to explore.
There is an option at each stop of a gentle wander or a short, moderate walk on gravel or in a sandy riverbed.
Alice Springs and Surrounds
Staying close to town, we will explore some of the amazing work being done by Alice Springs landcare groups. This will take you along the Todd River and/or into the Eastside hills where dedicated volunteers have been keeping patches of public land free of weeds over many years. This has allowed many native grasses and forbes to flourish.
Depending on where and what is in flower, we will explore some of the surrounding areas with different habitats, whether private or public gardens or local landscapes. We never know, year to year, where there will be spring flowers; but, there are always surprises!
The last stop will be the majestic Simpsons Gap with its towering cliffs, special native plants and where you can enjoy a wander to the waterhole and along the River Red Gum lined creek.
There is an option at each stop of a gentle wander or a short, moderate walk mainly on gravel.
