Desert Park

Situated under the towering MacDonnell Ranges, you will have a choice of a cinematic journey through four and a half billion years of desert creation, wandering through three botanical habitats including desert rivers, woodland and sand country, seeing rare and endangered animals in the Nocturnal House, seeing many arid-zone birds free-flying birds of prey.

The walking trails are accessible and easy to wander with places to sit and enjoy nature. (There are some ride-on electric chairs available for hire.)

The Park is owned by the NT Government and plays a role in desert research and conservation and contributes to, and partners in, many plant and animal research and breeding programs.

Olive Pink Botanical Gardens

The Olive Pink Botanic Garden is a 16-hectare botanic garden specialising in plants and landscapes native to central Australia. It features over 600 plant species, is a registered sacred site and is home to the Black-footed Rock Wallaby and numerous birds including the Western Bower Bird.

You will hear about the cultural significance of the Garden, the extraordinary Miss Olive Pink who lobbied intensely for the Garden, and the role that the Garden plays in conservation of native species for our future.

You will have time to wander the native plant themed accessible trails that meander through the garden, relax in a number of seating areas, or climb Annie Meyers Hill for great views of the Todd River, Alice Springs and the MacDonnell Ranges.

The Garden is a not-for-profit organization overseen by a Trust. It receives some funding from the NT Government and depends on the generosity of visitors and sponsors.
